Kenneth Whiteside — Home Invasion — Stabs and Rapes, Hispanic Woman, in Roswell, New Mexico

Roswell Police Department detectives and mobile command center on scene investigating a Saturday morning stabbing, burglary and sexual assault of a woman in her 40′s on Pecan Street just north of Peach.

January 5, 2014 Roswell, New Mexico (KRQE/Plains-Valley Online News) —  A woman left to die in her home early Saturday is in critical condition while a Roswell man sits in jail charged in the brutal attack.

Roswell police allege Kenneth Whiteside broke into the home on Pecan Street some time before 6:30 a.m. Saturday and raped and stabbed the woman.  He then burglarized the home, police said.

The woman was able to reach the home of a neighbor who called 911.

“She’s a parent, she’s a sister, and for someone to do that to her, it’s not right,” a tearful Betty Gomez told KRQE News 13. “It’s not right.”

Within minutes of the call officers spotted a car matching the description of the suspect’s vehicle, pulled it over and eventually arrested Whiteside.

He is charged with rape, attempted murder and aggravated battery and is being held in the Chaves County Detention Center under a $500,000 bond.

The woman suffered multiple stab wounds and was reported to be in critical condition as she was being airlifted to a hospital. An update on her condition is not yet available.
